Neon’s have been a little more questioned in recent years and tend not to be used for the next few years. We now speak of fluorescent tube or TL. But even if neon lights are indeed a less and less preferred solution, they are still very present, especially in company premises.
This bulb is presented as a simple bulb and remains one bulb among many others (incandescent bulb, LED, halogen or even low consumption). But neon will of course have marked the history of lighting in a home because its choice of consumption is different, through our guide.
Custom neons the best way to decorate your home.
NEON = FLUORESCENT LAMP?
If you did not yet know what neon is (which I highly doubt), it is actually a kind of fluorescent lamp that can be found in the form of a tube made of glass. This tube will contain a very harmful gas mixture in which we will find argon or mercury.
A mixture which will in particular be excited by an electric discharge and which will subsequently ionize and emit light. Tubular shapes, which can go up to 2 meters, but which can in some cases adopt a more circular shape. Neon in particular gave birth to compact fluorescent lamps, such as the low consumption lamp.
IN WHICH CASE TO USE NEON?
Within our landscape, where the styles of lamps are more and more known, these fluorescent lamps will all the same have their place in certain specifics which will be: ceiling lighting and especially still in most companies, for the contours of a room or even under the kitchen furniture in order to illuminate more easily.
Namely that these lamps will in particular be able to be declined now with colors such as blue, green, red or even pink. You can have 3 ranges of neon which will be: 55 to 70, 85 or even greater than 90 in terms of color rendering.
WHAT WILL BE THE ADVANTAGES OF THIS TYPE OF LIGHTING?
Starting with its lifespan, which will be long and which still represents a strong asset today, compared to other models on the market such as incandescent lamps or halogen lamps. Not to mention its luminous efficiency which remains quite high on the market and which will be about 5 times greater than that of other lamps on the market while also competing with LED’s. You will also find that there will be no heat release to avoid possible burns.
For the disadvantages, you will need to implement a special treatment when you eliminate your neon bulb and mandatory recycling. If your neon breaks, due to the presence of mercury, you are strongly recommended to ventilate the room, to leave it for half an hour for the mercury to evaporate.
