Located in a deprived suburb of Lahore, meant to bring prosperity and modernism to the people of Raiwand and to the students that study in the shining institute of medical and dental sciences. The campus is located in a Sharif Medical City and is provided with every facility from sophisticated machinery to highly qualified faculty and supporting staff.Sharif Medical And Dental College Lahore is a modern medical institute fulfilling every single need of the people having everything inside the same fence.
The institute was a brainchild of late Mian Muhammad Sharif; itwas built during the rule of Sharif’s son and the current Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in 1997, who is also the chairman of the board of governors and a trustee of Sharif Medical City and Sharif Medical And Dental College. The other two authors are his brothers, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and late Abbas Sharif. The medical college is financially independent and is fully supported financially by the Sharif Family. It is located at Jati Umra, Lahore on Raiwand Road. The whole medical city along with the campus comprises of 671 canals of land.
The Lahore’s main campus offers MBBS, BDS courses along with specialization courses including Surgery, Paediatrics, General Medicine,Obstetrics, Nephrology, Radiology, Oral Sciences, Maxillofacial,Gynecology, orthodontics, and Anaesthesia. The Allied College is located inside the medical city that provides advanced knowledge to the students of nursing and technical sciences. Hostel facility for Undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty, nursing students and faculty, as well as staff membersare provided. There is a bank inside the campus; the college has its canteens, masjid, sportsrooms, grounds for outdoor sports, as well as various clubs for students and faculty.
Admissions in Sharif Medical And Dental College Lahore:
The admissions are opened for undergraduate and postgraduate courses along with the other medical colleges of Punjab for MBBS and BDS. The admission dates are announced in August every year. For the year 2017, it is likely to open on 5th August. The students have to submit a challan worth Rs. 3000 to Sharif Medical City to obtain the prospectus from the campus or any HBL Branch. For students of Allied Sciences, the admission dates announced in February or March and the commencement of classes in April. As of 2016-2017, students are eligible to submit their application forms to the Sharif Medical And Dental College once they have submitted their fee for prospectus and admission.
Sharif Medical And Dental College Lahore has a restricted number of seats; it offers no bargain for any student except for open merit as per the rules of PMDC and UHS. There are total 150 seats for students overall in MBBS and BDS sciences. A limited number of seats are allocated for the students of Azad Kashmir and GIilgit-Baltistan. Of 150 seats, about 100 seats are reserved to MBBS and 50 remaining are for BDS course. 85 out of 100 seats are for Pakistani nationals, and 15 of the remaining are for foreign candidates applying for admissions. A 7-seat quota is reserved for international studentson BDS. The classes start at the end of October or early November in SMDC.
Eligibility Criteria:
The basic eligibility criteria for any medical or engineering university program of Pakistan is 60% marks in FSc pre-Medical and pre-engineering as guided by HEC. The Sharif Medical And Dental College follows the same rule if a student submits his/her admission form not fulfilling the criteria is sacked out of merit list with no explanation given. Overseas candidates must follow the guidelines of IBCC. The minimum criteria for international students with Pakistani nationality or dual citizenship can apply but with minimum 550 scores in SAT-II examination or similar passing marks in American High School system with Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and English.
The Provincial Medical College Admission Tests (MCAT) is held every year on same dates all over Punjab; it is the necessary criteria and medium for admission in all the public and private medical colleges in Punjab and federal territory. The Hafiz-e-Quran students are given bonus marks in admission; they have to give an interview before the selection committee.
Total aggregate is made of the three grades, concluding 10% marks in Matric examination, 40% in FSc. Pre-Medical and 50% of the total aggregate count from the candidate’s MCAT scores. The pattern of entrance test is adopted from the standards of International MCQ tests held in developed countries. The greater weight is of science subjects Biology, Chemistry, Physics respectively. English make up to 30 marks for the test. In 2016, the total aggregate closed on roughly 83%, in 2017, it is likely to rise to 84% as the competition is growing tougher and tougher every year. Out of 5 lakh students, only 3500 make their way to professional medical colleges for MBBS and BDS courses.
Sharif Medical And Dental College Fee Structure:
The fee structure of SMDC Lahore is separated into two categories i.e. for local and foreign students. for Pakistani students, the admission fee, tuition fee with other charges included taxes and sports and faculty support charges sums up to Rs. 900,000 for the first year. the basic tuition fee for private medical colleges is Rs. 600,000 instructed by PMDC and Ministry of Health, Education. For overseas students with Pakistani Nationality or dual citizenship, the annual charges are accumulated to Rs. 10 lakh. For foreign nationals applying for admissions in Sharif Medical And Dental College, the fee structure is fixed to 18,000 US dollars excluding hostel and mess charges.
Departments & Affiliates:
A total of 24 departments for Medical and around ten departments for dental sciences are functioning in SMDC Lahore. The unitsare divided into two main sections, one for basic sciences and the other one for clinical sciences. The latter makes most of the contributions as it also houses Postgraduate students and senior MBBS and BDS undergraduates and its curriculum & research is based on advanced sciences.
Since its installation, SMDC is affiliated with the prestigious University of Health Sciences, IMED, FAIMER, PMDC, and College of Physicians & Surgeon Pakistan (CPSP).
